Head of AI and Data

About the role

We're hiring a Head of AI and Data to own the Engine that drives CarEdge: the AI agent and the data extraction / infrastructure that everything else at CarEdge depends on. This role owns what makes the consumer and dealer marketplaces work.

This role owns the performance and roadmap of two connected functions. The agent covers agent conversations, outreach, negotiation, mystery shop execution, out-the-door quote extraction, internal tooling, and referrals. Data covers the core data platform: listings, dealers, quotes, referral partners, data engineering, OTD redaction, DTI back-end data, and OTD review automation. You'll own the technical strategy, the architecture calls, and the accountability for whether our engine holds up under real-world load, regulatory scrutiny, and competitive pressure.

What you'll own

• The Engine end-to-end. Agent and Data. The technical roadmap, the architecture decisions, the sequencing of what gets built, the standards for what ships.
• Core data platform. Roadmap and ongoing maintenance of the underlying data infrastructure: third-party vendor data (Marketcheck, DataOne, Imagin, and others), dealer management system (DMS) integrations, data normalization across sources, pipeline reliability, and data quality controls.
• Agent quality and capability. The agent is currently handling real negotiations at scale (135,000+ agentic negotiations, $37.8M saved for buyers). The commitment is a marketplace where 100% of consumer-to-dealer transactions run through our rails. You own the technical path to how this gets fulfilled.
• The proprietary dataset. 69,755+ verified out-the-door worksheets across 17,298 dealers, growing every day. This dataset is the reason DTI can be defended, the reason our AI answers are cited first, and the reason no dealer-funded competitor can catch us. You own its integrity, its growth, and the infrastructure that makes it usable.
• DTI back-end and methodology defensibility. You own the underlying data pipelines, scoring logic, and the technical rigor that makes DTI hold up to legal challenge, regulatory scrutiny, or press pushback.
• Engineering leadership within the Engine. Direct management of the Agent Engineering Team and Data Team. You hire, mentor, set standards, and grow both teams.
• Cross-functional partnership. Consumer Product on what the agent needs to do next. Dealer Product on the data dealers see and submit. Product Quality on the pattern-signal that shapes the agent roadmap.

Who you are

• 10+ years of engineering experience owning AI, ML, or agent products at scale.
• Deep AI agent expertise. Time at an AI-first company is strongly preferred.
• Deep data engineering and/or infrastructure expertise. You've built or led data platforms that support production products.
• Comfortable with the intersection of AI and data.
• Real technical leadership track record. You've made hard architecture calls and helped lead a technical function through a period of significant scale.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and founding-team velocity.
• Automotive industry experience is a plus, not a requirement.
