What is a
window sticker?

Also called a Monroney label — a federally required disclosure on every new vehicle sold in the U.S. since 1958.

The sticker breaks down the vehicle as it left the factory: manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), standard equipment, factory-installed options and packages with individual pricing, fuel economy ratings, crash test safety scores, and where the vehicle was assembled.

For used car buyers, the original window sticker is especially valuable. It reveals exactly which options were included at the time of purchase — information that helps you verify a seller’s claims, compare trim levels, and determine whether the asking price reflects the vehicle’s true factory configuration.

Dealer-installed accessories and markups appear on a separate addendum sticker, not the Monroney label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a window sticker required by law?

Yes. The Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958 (commonly called the Monroney Act) requires every new vehicle sold in the United States to display a window sticker showing the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, standard equipment, optional equipment and pricing, and fuel economy ratings.

Can a dealer remove or alter the window sticker?

No. Federal law prohibits dealers from removing or modifying the Monroney label before the vehicle is delivered to the buyer. The sticker must remain on the vehicle until it is sold.

Does the window sticker include dealer-installed accessories?

No. The Monroney label only lists factory-installed options and equipment from the manufacturer. Dealer-installed accessories, protection packages, and markups appear on a separate addendum sticker.

How is this different from other window sticker sites?

Most window sticker services use ChromeData, a third-party database that reconstructs sticker information from decoded VIN data. We pull stickers directly from each manufacturer’s OEM system — the same data printed on the sticker at the factory. Third-party databases have been shown to have pricing discrepancies of $52 to $1,503 per vehicle.

What vehicles are supported?

We support Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Mazda, Kia, Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat. Toyota, Lexus, Kia, and Mazda stickers are only available for new or recent model-year vehicles. Ford, Lincoln, GM, Stellantis, and Subaru stickers are available for a wider range of model years.

Where do I find my VIN?

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a 17-character code found on the driver’s side of the dashboard (visible through the windshield), on the sticker inside the driver’s door jamb, and on your vehicle registration and insurance documents.

Competitors charge $7–$10 per sticker. Ours is free.
