We recommend that people buy extended warranties for their vehicles to protect them against costly repair bills. While buying one at the dealership is usually not the best choice, you should still investigate extended warranties for your car at some point during your ownership. We’re going to go over the Jeep extended warranty program. We’ll discuss the levels of coverage available, compare the warranty to third-party equivalents, and give a final recommendation on its value.

Is It Worth Getting a Jeep Extended Warranty?

We can’t say if a Jeep extended warranty is worth it without first talking about what’s in the warranty. The program is managed by Mopar in an official partnership with Jeep.

Mopar offers four levels of coverage, which we’ll look at in-depth below.

Powertrain Care Plus

This plan covers the entire powertrain, including the engine, transmission, and driveline. There is no coverage for other systems on this plan, however.

Added Care

Covering everything in Powertrain Care Plus, this plan also adds coverage for braking systems, cooling systems, and some electrical systems.

Added Care Plus

This plan expands on the previous two plans by adding coverage for the rear suspension, luxury group systems, instrumentation, and more electrical systems.

Maximum Care

As the highest level of coverage available, this plan aims to cover almost every component in the vehicle. It includes body mechanisms, manual interior mechanisms, and safety systems.

If you’d like to learn more about these plans, you can view Mopar’s breakdown on page five of their extended warranty sales brochure.

None of the Jeep extended warranty plans provide any coverage for maintenance, such as air filters and oil changes. There is also no coverage for the body, paint, or items that wear by design, such as rotors and belts.

When it comes to term lengths, you have your choice of mileage in intervals of 15,000. You can even select an option for unlimited miles, although that will definitely boost your cost. You’ll also be able to choose a term length that works for you.

Other than their thorough coverage, there are other perks worth mentioning in the program, which include:

  • Warranties are fully transferable with a $50 fee.
  • $1,000 trip interruption coverage is available to pay for food and lodging if there is a breakdown more than 100 miles away from your house.
  • 24/7 roadside assistance is provided, with coverage for towing, jump-starts, and flat tire changes.
  • Rental car allowance of up to $35 per day with a maximum of $175 is available.

Even though these perks are great, we don’t think they should come into play when making your decision. Compare extended warranty programs based on coverage and price, not on perks.

We aren’t discussing the prices of the plans in our Jeep extended warranty review because the price will vary based on the car. As we broke down in a previous post on vehicle service contracts, pricing is based on the VIN and mileage for a given car. This is true for all extended warranties, so you’ll need to obtain a number of quotes to determine what a fair price might be for your vehicle.

All Jeep extended warranties start when you purchase the plan. You should keep this in mind to avoid having an overlap with your existing factory warranty. It also means you don’t have to buy a warranty when you buy your car.

Are Jeep extended protection plans worth it? Due to the high degree of customization available, we believe that they are likely worth the investment. It’s at least worth getting a quote and seeing what your price will be.

Jeep Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

Mopar is technically a third-party company, but these warranties are offered as more of a partnership with Jeep. As such, this means that all warranties administered through Mopar must have their repairs done at a participating Jeep dealership.

Mopar does provide some recourse if you have a covered mechanical breakdown when you’re too far away from a Jeep dealership. The process is far from simple, unfortunately. You’ll have to contact Mopar before repairs begin to get pre-authorization. Once the repairs are done, you have to pay for them in full and then submit a request for reimbursement. Assuming your claim is approved, you’ll have to wait for reimbursement.

By comparison, most third-party warranties will allow you to have repairs completed at any repair shop that is licensed by ASE or AAA. Whether issues occur at home or in another state, you’ll likely be able to find a covered shop to do your repairs. Most warranty companies also pay for repairs over the phone, meaning you usually won’t have to pay anything more than your deductible.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Jeep Extended Warranty?

Mopar does provide coverage for Jeep certified pre-owned vehicles. However, you’ll only have two options available, the Maximum Care and Added Care Plus plans.

You can also add on GAP insurance for your CPO vehicle through Mopar, which might be worth considering, depending on your situation.

Do We Recommend a Jeep Vehicle Service Contract?

Where do we land on the value in our Jeep extended warranty review? We do recommend the Jeep vehicle service contract. We like that Jeep is upfront and honest about their partnership with Mopar. They provide a variety of plan options that can be used to customize your coverage. The primary downside comes with the limitations on where you can take your vehicle for repairs, but this is a standard limit on factory extended warranties.

We can’t discuss if a Lincoln vehicle service contract is worth getting without first talking about what’s included in the warranty.

Lincoln has comprehensive coverage that’s divided into four tiers of plans. We’ll link each tier to the coverage map provided by Lincoln so that you can see exactly what components are covered:

  1. PowertrainCARE. This simplistic plan only covers 29 components that are all related to the engine and transmission. This is the lowest level of coverage, but it will still prevent a costly repair bill if something happens to the powertrain.
  2. BaseCARE. The second tier up provides coverage for everything the PowertrainCARE plan, plus added coverage for other systems that impact the vehicle’s drivability, such as steering, brakes, and suspension. In total, there are 84 components covered.
  3. ExtraCARE. Providing coverage for everything above and more, this program covers 113 components. This program adds coverage for electrical systems and “high tech” systems.
  4. PremiumCARE. As the top tier plan, this program covers over 1,000 different components. Every system in your vehicle has some components covered. Not surprisingly, this is the program they want everyone to buy.

Every plan provides you with your choice of term lengths up to eight years or 125,000 miles. You’ll only be responsible for paying your pre-selected deductible. All plans are completely transferrable, which increases your resale value. Lincoln does not mention if there is a fee for transferring your warranty.

Roadside assistance is available with each tier as well. Towing, tire services, fuel delivery, and lockouts are all included in the coverage.

Lincoln also provides rental benefits for up to 10 days if you are stuck without a vehicle while your repairs are being completed.

Repairs must be completed at a Ford or Lincoln dealership. Fortunately, your extended warranty will be accepted at every dealership in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Your repairs will be carried about by a Lincoln-trained technician and use genuine parts.

Lincoln Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

Third-party extended warranties tend to copy the coverage provided by automakers’ extended warranty programs. As such, there are typically only minor differences in component coverage between extended warranty providers.

One difference is vital, though: where you can repair your vehicle. As discussed above, any vehicle with a Lincoln extended protection plan must be repaired at a Lincoln or Ford dealership. With a third-party extended warranty, you can have your repairs completed at any shop that’s licensed by ASE or AAA.

Does this really matter? That’s up to you. If you are far from a Lincoln or Ford dealership, then it might make a big difference.

Keep in mind that a Lincoln extended warranty means that your repairs will be completed by a Lincoln-trained technician and use genuine parts. Since genuine parts tend to be of better quality than aftermarket parts, this is important to point out.  

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Lincoln Extended Warranty?

Lincoln does not make any special mention of certified pre-owned coverage on their website. This could mean that a Lincoln certified pre-owned vehicle is not covered, or it could mean that it has special coverage that is not explicitly stated. You’ll need to ask the dealership directly what your options are when buying a Lincoln certified pre-owned vehicle.

We like that you have a variety of options when it comes to coverage and term lengths. Since you can take your car to any Ford dealership for repairs, the limitations on where you can repair your car might not be a dealbreaker, as Ford dealerships are quite common. We need to discuss what’s included in a Lexus extended warranty before we can analyze if it’s worth buying one.

Lexus offers three tiers of plans to consider:

  1. Lexus Extra Care Powertrain. This program provides coverage for the engine, transmission, front and wheel-drive systems, and more. It is the lowest level program available.
  2. Lexus Extra Care Gold. You’ll have extensive coverage for most main systems of your vehicle, including what’s covered by the Extra Care Powertrain program.
  3. Lexus Extra Care Platinum. At the highest level available, this program covers most components in your vehicle.

Each of the above plans is available on new and used Lexus’s. For a used vehicle to be eligible, it must be within 9 model years and under 125,000 miles. Additionally, used vehicle plans can only be purchased when the vehicle is sold.  

There’s also another level of coverage exclusively for Lexus certified pre-owned vehicles:

  • Lexus Extra Care L/Certified Plan. This one and only option provides protection for major components in your vehicle. All L/Certified (which is their term for CPO) vehicles are eligible. The warranty may be purchased at any time prior to the expiration of the 2-year warranty that comes with all L/Certified vehicles.

New and used vehicles have a $0 or $100 disappearing deductible per repair visit. A disappearing deductible means that the deductible will be waived if your car is repaired at the same dealership that sold the extended warranty.

Every Lexus extended protection plan includes a number of helpful perks, such as:

  • 24/7 roadside assistance within the continental U.S. and Canada for the entire duration of your agreement, providing coverage for towing, flat tires, battery jump starts, and fuel delivery services
  • Substitute transportation when your vehicle is being worked on, up to $50 per day for a maximum of five days
  • Trip interruption protection, providing for $100 per day for food and lodging if a breakdown occurs more than 150 miles from your home

Every Lexus extended warranty can be transferred at no cost. This greatly increases your resale value should you decide to sell your car.

Does this matter? That depends largely on your distance from a Lexus dealership. We think it’s worthwhile to have your Lexus repaired by specialized technicians and using Lexus genuine parts. However, if the dealership is too far away, it might not be worth it.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Lexus Extended Warranty?

If you’ve purchased a Lexus certified pre-owned vehicle, you have an entirely unique extended warranty available, which we discussed above. It has the same coverage as the warranty that comes standard with a certified pre-owned vehicle.

There is no deductible for repairs. You’ll also receive all of the perks we discussed that come with the other programs. You may purchase your extended warranty at any point during the two-year warranty that comes with your CPO vehicle.

Do We Recommend a Lexus Vehicle Service Contract?

Where do we land at the end of our Lexus extended warranty review? We do recommend the Lexus vehicle service contract. Lexus offers a wide variety of programs to suit anyone’s needs. We also like how they even make special mention of coverage for used vehicles, which is unusual.

  • Total Confidence. This plan is said to have coverage for all of the same components as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is what comes with every new vehicle and is quite comprehensive. It covers most major components and is often called a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Both Mazda extended protection plans are fully transferable. Their website does not disclose if there is a fee for transferring. Either way, it’s a great way to increase your resale value.

There is a $0 or a $100 deductible, which you’ll select when you purchase your plan. Term lengths go in yearly increments all the way up to 9 years and 100,000 miles.

Repairs must be completed at a Mazda dealership. All repairs will be completed by Mazda-trained technicians, and they will use Mazda genuine parts to complete the repairs. Having genuine parts can go a long way in protecting you from further issues, as aftermarket parts are known to be less reliable.

In order to be covered by this warranty, the issue must stem from a manufacturer’s defect. Issues related to abuse, misuse, or neglect will not be covered. This is standard practice for all extended warranties.

Either Mazda extended protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance. The roadside assistance program includes:

  • Towing to the nearest Mazda dealer
  • Battery jump-starts
  • Flat tire service
  • Fuel delivery
  • Lockout service
  • Trip interruption expense reimbursement, although exact details are not mentioned

You can also bundle your Mazda warranty with other types of coverage, such as GAP protection and vehicle theft protection. Their website does not make it clear if bundling these types of protection together will save you money.

On the other hand, most third-party warranty providers allow you to have repairs completed at any repair shop that is licensed by ASE or AAA. The warranty provider will pay for repairs over the phone, and you’ll only have to pay your deductible or any non-covered repairs.

Does this difference matter? That will depend on your distance from a Mazda dealership. We think having your vehicles completed at a dealership using genuine parts is worthwhile. However, if you’re too far from a Mazda dealership, it might be better to go for a third-party warranty.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Mazda Extended Warranty?

If you’ve purchased a Mazda certified pre-owned vehicle, you might be wondering what your options are for an extended warranty. Unfortunately, there is no special mention of CPO vehicles on Mazda’s extended warranty website. This could mean they aren’t eligible, or it could just mean there’s no difference in coverage.

We suggest that you discuss your options with the dealership if you have a Mazda CPO. They’ll be able to tell you if you are eligible or if there is any other special coverage for a CPO.

Is It Worth Getting a Mini Extended Warranty?

Before we can analyze if the Mini vehicle service contract is worth buying, we first need to discuss what’s included in the warranty.

The Mini warranty program is broken up into three policies. All three of these policies are available for new and used Minis, whereas only the Platinum plan is available for Mini certified pre-owned vehicles. The plans are:

  1. Powertrain Plus. This bare-bones plan provides partial coverage for the engine, transmission, and final drive assembly. It’s designed to protect you against costly repairs caused by powertrain malfunctions.
  2. Gold. As the mid-tier plan, coverage is expanded to full coverage of the engine and transmission. Coverage is also added for the fuel system, cooling system, brakes, and steering.
  3. Platinum. This top tier plan intends to cover most components in the vehicle.  It expands coverage to include full coverage of the infotainment system and partial coverage of the interior and exterior.

When it comes to term lengths, new and used cars have their choice of extending their factory warranty by four to seven years. Mileage coverage is either 75,000 miles or 100,000 miles, your choice.

Term lengths are a bit more complex for certified pre-owned vehicles. Here are the term length extension options for CPOs:

  • CPO Elite – 1 year
  • CPO – 2 years
  • CPO Wrap Elite – 3 years
  • CPO Wrap – 3 years

Every Mini extended warranty plan comes with 24/7 roadside assistance, which provides towing services, lockout assistance, fuel delivery, and battery jump-starts.

All repairs must be completed at an authorized Mini dealership. This can be seen as a downside, but you’ll have genuine Mini parts, and the technicians will be specifically trained to work on your car. However, according to the Mini website, there are approximately 100 Mini dealers in the United States. You’ll have to consider your distance from a dealership when deciding whether or not to purchase a Mini extended warranty.

We aren’t discussing prices for the plans in our Mini extended warranty review because vehicle service contracts are priced based on mileage and VINs. This means that no two Minis will have the same price for their extended warranty. We suggest obtaining a quote for a Mini vehicle service contract and then comparing that price to quotes from other providers.

Is the Mini extended protection plan worth getting? We believe it is. The only downside is that the small number of Mini dealerships around the country. Having only 100 dealerships could mean that you’ll have a breakdown too far from a Mini dealership. Other than this downside, we believe the Mini extended protection plans are thorough and worth considering.

Mini Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

Third-party extended warranty providers typically offer similar coverage to automakers’ warranties so that they can remain competitive.

The major difference between getting an automaker’s extended warranty and a third-party option is where you can have your vehicle repaired. With a Mini extended warranty, all repairs must be completed at a Mini dealership. As mentioned, there are around 100 dealerships in the entire country. This might be a large downside, depending on your location and driving habits.

Conversely, most third-party extended warranty programs allow you to have repairs completed at any auto shop that is licensed by ASE or AAA. This is a massive difference in repair options, as most auto shops are licensed by one of those options.

Ultimately, it comes down to your situation. If you’re far from a Mini dealership, you should go for a third-party option. Otherwise, a Mini extended warranty might be a good fit for you.  

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Mini Extended Warranty?

Mini certified pre-owned vehicles are only eligible for the Platinum program. This plan covers most components in your vehicle against manufacturer’s defects. There are a variety of term lengths available, which we discussed above.

If you’ve financed your CPO, Mini also sells GAP insurance and other types of coverage that you might be interested in bundling with your extended warranty.

Do We Recommend a Mini Vehicle Service Contract?

What’s the final result of our Mini extended warranty review? We do recommend the Mini extended warranty. There are plenty of coverage options so that you can select the plan that most interests you. Mercedes only offers one plan, simply known as the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty. This plan covers:

  • Transmission
  • Turbocharger/supercharger
  • Cooling system
  • Fuel injection system
  • Steering system
  • Radio
  • Radio receiver
  • Speakers
  • Climate control
  • Navigation system

They specifically state that this is a sampling of what’s covered with the Mercedes extended warranty program and not an exhaustive list. In the fine print, they direct you to contact your Mercedes dealer to go over all covered components.

An exclusion list is also made available, which includes:

  • Vehicle batteries
  • Shock absorbers/suspension struts
  • Communications infrastructure
  • Soft top
  • Glass
  • Paint
  • Appearance items
  • Damage due to lack of maintenance or improper maintenance
  • Damage caused by accidents, misuse, negligence, tampering, or alterations
  • Repairs required due to normal wear and tear
  • Normal maintenance
  • Vehicles used for commercial purposes
  • Any repairs that exceed the market value of the vehicle

Mercedes specifically states that the extended warranty goes into effect when the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires. As such, the following lengths are available to extend your warranty:

  • One year with your choice of 75,000 or 100,000 miles
  • Two years with your choice of 75,000 or 100,000 miles
  • Three years with your choice of 75,000 or 100,000 miles

All repairs must be completed at a Mercedes dealership. As such, all repairs will be completed by a Mercedes-trained technician and use genuine Mercedes parts. There are approximately 350 dealerships throughout the country to choose from. While not as many dealerships as Ford, there is likely a dealership near you.

The Mercedes extended warranty is fully transferable to another party. There is no mention of a fee for transferring ownership. Being able to transfer your warranty is a great way to boost your resale value.

There are no deductibles whatsoever. The Mercedes vehicle service contract is also completely refundable if canceled prior to the expiration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Something that stands out is the lack of additional perks, like roadside assistance. While not a big deal, we’re surprised to see that Mercedes isn’t offering more incentives to buy a warranty.

Notice how we aren’t discussing pricing in our Mercedes extended warranty review? That’s because, as discussed in a previous post about vehicle service contracts, prices vary based on VIN and mileage. This adds quite a bit of variance to prices, even for cars of the same make, model, and year. As such, you’ll need to obtain a quote from Mercedes or any other provider to see how much their coverage will cost you.

What’s the final call? Is a Mercedes extended warranty worth it? We think it is, provided that you’re near a dealership. Even though we wish there were more repair options, having Mercedes-trained technicians working on your vehicle is a massive upside. Additionally, having genuine parts used during your repairs will greatly extend the life of your vehicle.

Mercedes Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

When it comes to coverage, third-party extended warranties often provide similar levels of coverage as car manufacturer’s extended warranties. They do mimic the coverage so that they can remain competitive.

One difference stands out, though: repair options. With a third-party extended warranty, you have your choice of any repair shop that is licensed by ASE or AAA, which is most repair shops. With a Mercedes extended protection plan, repairs must be completed at a dealership.

We typically advise you to choose based largely on your distance from a dealership. However, with Mercedes, we urge you to consider going to the added distance to have repairs completed at a dealership. Mercedes requires precision and advanced diagnostics that might not be available at a third-party shop. Additionally, most repair shops use aftermarket parts, which could shorten the life of your car.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Mercedes Extended Warranty?

It does not appear as though there is any special coverage for a Mercedes certified pre-owned vehicle. There is no mention of CPO programs on any of the information that Mercedes has made available. This means that you’ll need to ask your closest dealership if there are any special considerations for Mercedes CPO vehicles.

While we’d love for there to be more dealerships to complete your repairs, we believe that having your repairs done by Mercedes-trained technicians and genuine parts is well worth driving further for repairs. Is It Worth Getting a Nissan Extended Warranty?

We first need to examine what’s included in the Nissan vehicle service contract before we can talk about if it’s worth buying.

Nissan offers three levels of vehicle service contracts. These plans include:

Powertrain Preferred

This program primarily provides coverage for the engine, transmission, and drive axle. Some components in the braking system, electrical system, and suspension are also covered. In total, there are 839 components covered in this plan.

Silver Preferred

As the mid-tier program, 1,529 components are covered. Every system in the vehicle has some of its components covered, including the body, interior, and navigation systems.

Gold Preferred

The previous two plans are inclusion-based plans, meaning that components have to be specifically listed in order to be covered. The Gold Preferred plan is an exclusion-based program, which means that all components are covered unless they are specifically excluded. The full exclusionary list will be provided with your contract. To illustrate the number of components covered, Nissan says that 2,213 components are covered.

The Powertrain Preferred plan comes with 24/7 roadside assistance of up to $100 per claim, which includes fuel delivery, battery jump-starts, and lockouts.

Gold Preferred and Silver Preferred plans include the above benefits, along with:

  • Car rental reimbursement; up to $35 per day with a maximum of five days
  • Reimbursement for towing your vehicle to a Nissan dealer; up to $100 per claim
  • Trip interruption benefits for breakdowns that occur more than 100 miles away from your home; up to $500 per claim

You’ll choose your deductible amount — either $0 or $100. You don’t have to pay anything else out of pocket, as dealerships will be paid directly by the warranty provider. This is standard for all automaker warranties.

All Nissan extended protection plans are fully transferable to a new party. Their documentation says that a fee may be applied, but they do not mention the cost.

As for term lengths, you’ll have your choice to extend your factory warranty by up to 8 years and 120,000 miles. The factory warranty for all new Nissans lasts for three years, so if you purchase the 8-year program, you’ll actually only be adding five years to the warranty. This same logic applies to mileage.

All repairs must be completed at a Nissan dealership, which is standard for automaker extended warranties. This might seem like a drawback, but having your repairs completed by Nissan-trained technicians using genuine Nissan parts will greatly extend the life of your vehicle. Aftermarket parts are typically less reliable, and that’s what most auto shops use for standard repairs.

Certified pre-owned vehicles have a separate plan, which we’ll discuss more below.

Notice that we aren’t discussing prices in our Nissan extended warranty review? That’s because, as we’ve mentioned in a prior post on the topic, vehicle service contract prices are determined based on your VIN and mileage. This means that two cars of the same make and model will have a different price for their VSCs. As such, you’ll need to have several providers send you quotes to determine who has the best price.

Is a Nissan extended warranty worth getting? We think so. It’s a quality warranty with three levels of coverage and your choice of term lengths. You can obtain the exact amount of coverage you’re after by customizing your plan. It’s well worth getting a quote and comparing it to other providers.

Most third-party extended warranty providers tend to copy the component coverage from the car manufacturer’s extended warranties. They copy them because they want to remain competitive. There will still be differences, so any prospective third-party warranty needs to be thoroughly examined and compared to a Nissan extended warranty.

The major difference between a Nissan extended protection plan and a third-party option is where you can have your vehicle repaired. With a Nissan extended warranty, all repairs must be completed at a Nissan dealership. With a third-party warranty, you can have your repairs completed at any repair shop that is licensed by ASE or AAA (although this may vary by the warranty provider).

As we mentioned earlier, having your car repaired at the dealership is usually a good thing. It only becomes a drawback when you are not located near a Nissan dealership, or you break down while on a road trip. You’ll have to consider your needs to see which option is right for you.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Nissan Extended Warranty?

All Nissan certified pre-owned vehicles are eligible for two programs that are exclusive to their CPO vehicles:

CPO Limited Warranty

This plan covers up to 601 components from most major systems, has a $50 deductible, and offers a term length of 84 months or 100,000 miles.

CPO Gold Preferred Wrap

This plan adds coverage for 1,623 components from all major systems, has a $0 deductible, and has different options for term lengths.

Both programs offer 24/7 roadside assistance, trip interruption coverage, and car rentals under the same terms as the standard extended warranty.

Is It Worth Getting a Porsche Extended Warranty?

We need to first analyze what’s included in a Porsche extended warranty before we determine if it’s worth getting one.

The Porsche Vehicle Service protection plan — which is the name for their extended warranty — has two tiers:

Powertrain

This bare-bones plan is designed to cover all of the vital systems in your vehicle. It covers the engine, transmission, drive axle, and gaskets.

Platinum

Designed to protect your entire vehicle, this plan offers coverage for every system in your vehicle. It includes everything in the Powertrain plan, along with coverage for shocks, the suspension, the fuel system, the electrical system, steering, and brakes.

Both programs have flexible term lengths, ranging from one to five years on top of your existing factory warranty. Mileage can go up to 100,000 miles.

The Porsche extended warranty is available on all new, pre-owned, and certified pre-owned vehicles as long as it is purchased when the car is purchased. However, there is one exception:  You may purchase the extended warranty at any point while the vehicle is still covered under the manufacturer’s new vehicle limited warranty.

All repairs must be done at a Porsche dealership. Repairs will be done by a Porsche-trained technician and will use genuine parts. This is fairly standard for extended warranties from the factory.

Porsche mentions a handful of exclusions, each of which will be expanded upon in the final contract:

  • There is no coverage for mechanical breakdowns that are already covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
  • No coverage is provided for mechanical breakdowns caused by vandalism, collision, accidents, or weather conditions.
  • No coverage is given for mechanical breakdowns due to a lack of maintenance or pre-existing conditions.
  • No repairs or replacements will be available for hybrid batteries, electric batteries, and battery cables.

Every plan has a deductible of either $100 or $250; you choose which one when you set up the contract. If you choose the $100 deductible, it will be waived when you visit the dealership that sold you the warranty and the vehicle.

Each Porsche extended protection plan may be transferred to a private party for a fee of $50.

Porsche extended warranty plans include the following benefits:

  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • $250 towing reimbursement to the nearest Porsche dealership
  • Rental car reimbursement; up to $50 for up to 10 days
  • Trip interruption benefits of up to $200 per day for a maximum of 5 days

We aren’t discussing the prices for any of these plans in our Porsche extended warranty review because vehicle service contracts are priced based on the VIN and mileage of your car. No two cars will have the exact same quote. That’s why we always suggest getting a quote for any service plans that catch your eye.

Is a Porsche extended warranty worth it? We definitely think so. Having your vehicle repaired by Porsche-trained technicians and with genuine parts will go far in extending the life of your car. Additionally, Porsche provides flexible options so that you can get the coverage and term length that’s right for you.

Porsche Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

We suggest that you steer clear of third-party extended warranties for your Porsche unless they are going to cover genuine parts for repairs.

Third-party extended warranties typically allow you to have your car repaired at any repair shop that’s licensed by ASE or AAA. Unfortunately, most repair shops will use aftermarket parts, which are less reliable than genuine parts. For most cars, this doesn’t really matter. However, Porsche’s parts require precise engineering to keep your car running.

As for coverage, most third-party extended warranty providers will have similar coverage to the Porsche extended warranty. This is because they want to stay competitive.

Of course, if you are nowhere near a Porsche dealership, it might be worth going with a third-party warranty instead of a Porsche vehicle service contract.  

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Porsche Extended Warranty?

There is no difference in coverage between a new vehicle and a Porsche certified pre-owned vehicle. Every Porsche CPO is eligible for both of the plans available. The same conditions will apply. However, you must buy the warranty when you buy the car or while it’s still covered under the original factory warranty.

Do We Recommend a Porsche Vehicle Service Contract?

What’s our final recommendation in our Porsche extended warranty review? We do recommend the Porsche vehicle service contract. They have two plans with variable coverage, plus your choice of term lengths and deductibles. This is not an exhaustive list. Unfortunately, this is all that’s available about what’s covered by the Land Rover extended protection plan. This means that you’ll need to ask for a comprehensive coverage list from the dealership prior to making your purchase.

There are a number of other benefits that come with the Land Rover extended warranty:

  • Land Rover Assistance, which is their roadside assistance program, may be included as an option.
  • All repairs are done with genuine Land Rover parts.
  • Claim limits go all the way up to the purchase price of your Land Rover.
  • Travel protection is provided when away from home, although the specifications are not disclosed.

You’ll have your choice of a variety of term lengths, although Land Rover does not disclose the exact increments that you can select from.

They do say that the warranty begins at the original in-service date of your Land Rover. If you purchase an eight-year warranty and your car is three years old, you’ll only have five years left on your warranty. While not every automaker abides by this policy, it is standard practice for many.

Be aware that you need to purchase the Land Rover extended warranty prior to 30 days or 1,000 miles of your car reaching the end of the factory warranty. You don’t need to buy it when you buy the car, but you can’t wait until your factory warranty is long gone.

As far as deductibles for covered repairs, the official Land Rover website does not mention them at all. However, various Land Rover dealerships mention deductibles ranging from $100 to $250. You’ll need to clarify what the exact deductible cost is for your program before you sign any contracts.

We are not talking about price in our Land Rover extended warranty review because, as discussed in a previous post, vehicle service contract prices vary from vehicle to vehicle. The cost is actually determined based on your VIN and mileage, so no two Land Rovers will have the same quote. This means that you’ll need to shop around and compare coverage before making your decision.

Is the Land Rover extended protection plan worth it? We are neutral towards this program simply because of the minimal information made available on the official site. If we knew more about coverage and deductibles, we would likely recommend it.

Land Rover Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

Most third-party extended warranties aim to mirror automakers’ warranties when it comes to coverage. As such, there is usually not much variance when it comes to component coverage between programs. One difference sticks out, though:  Where you can have your vehicle repaired.

Any SUV with a Land Rover extended warranty needs to be repaired at a participating Land Rover dealership. While this might be inconvenient, it also means that Land Rover’s trained technicians will be the ones repairing your car, and they’ll be using genuine parts to do it.

When it comes to third-party warranties, you’ll have a much wider network of repair options. Any shop that is officially licensed by ASE or AAA will likely work with any third-party warranty.

What does this all mean to you? It means you should obtain several quotes and compare costs and coverage. If you live far away from a Land Rover dealership, you might want to go for a third-party extended warranty.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Land Rover Extended Warranty?

Land Rover does not make any mention of special coverage for Land Rover certified pre-owned vehicles. This might not necessarily mean there isn’t any special coverage, so you would need to ask your closest dealership about it if you have a Land Rover CPO vehicle that you’d like covered.

Do We Recommend a Land Rover Vehicle Service Contract?

Before we can decide if it’s worth getting a Honda warranty, we need to discuss what’s even included in their extended warranty program.

Honda offers four levels of coverage to select from:

  1. New Vehicle Coverage
  2. Pre-Owned Vehicle Coverage
  3. Certified Additional Coverage
  4. Powertrain Coverage (Pre-owned vehicles only)

The first three options cover the same components:

  • Honda Genuine Accessories, including audio and communications devices and navigation systems
  • Chassis, including steering, suspension, and brake systems
  • Electronics, including computers, electrical components, and electrical systems
  • Drivetrain, including the engine, transmission, differential, and axles

The Powertrain Coverage option provides coverage for:

  • Seals, gaskets, and fluids
  • Transmission
  • Drive axle, both front and rear
  • Engine

For all of the Honda vehicle service contract options, repairs will need to be completed at a Honda or Acura dealership. All repairs will be done by factory-trained technicians, and all parts will be Honda Genuine Parts.

There are other benefits available, too. If you buy a Honda extended warranty, you’ll receive the following:

  • Trip interruption coverage, up to $100 per day for up to three days
  • Rental car reimbursement, up to $35 per day for up to six days
  • 24/7 roadside assistance, including lockouts, tire changes, and battery jump starts.
  • 24/7 concierge emergency services

While all of the above perks are excellent, and you should use them if you buy a Honda vehicle service contract, we don’t think perks should persuade you into buying any VSC. You should make your decision based on coverage and cost.

Your Honda extended warranty is also fully transferable. Honda does not mention if there is a fee for transferring the warranty. Either way, having the ability to transfer the warranty will greatly increase your resale value.

Honda also offers Sentinel Services, which is their name for a pre-paid maintenance program. This extended warranty add-on covers:

  • Routine oil changes
  • Road hazard tire protection
  • Roadside assistance
  • Trip interruption benefit
  • Concierge service

We’ve discussed in a previous post how the cost of a vehicle service contract varies by vehicle, which is why you won’t see costs mentioned in our Honda extended warranty review. This variance is because the cost of a VSC is based on the VIN and mileage. As such, we can’t evaluate the Honda extended warranty based on cost. You’ll need to obtain a quote to see what it’ll cost for your vehicle.

Is a Honda extended protection plan worth it? It really depends on the cost. Obtaining a quote is the best place to start. We have mixed feelings about the prepaid maintenance plans, however. Sometimes you can save money by purchasing them, but it’s usually not much. Those plans are typically retention tools to make sure you keep coming back to the dealership.

Honda Factory Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

All Honda extended warranty programs require that you have your repairs done at a participating Honda dealership. This can be quite the drawback depending on where you live or if you have issues while on a road trip.

Conversely, most third-party extended warranty programs allow you to have repairs done at almost any auto shop, provided they are licensed by ASE or AAA.

This variance in where you can have your vehicles repaired is the main difference between a Honda extended protection program and a third-party extended warranty. Third-party providers try to mimic what you can get from a Honda extended warranty, so coverage is often the same.

It’s worth mentioning that having your repairs done at the dealership means having Honda trained technicians completing your repairs with Honda genuine parts. Aftermarket parts have been known to be less reliable than genuine parts, so this should also be considered.

What is Covered Under a Pre-Owned Honda Extended Warranty?

Honda extended warranties provide the same protection for a certified pre-owned vehicle. As we detailed above, the Powertrain Coverage warranty is only available for Honda certified pre-owned cars. We assume this is because the existing powertrain warranty might be close to expiring, and they want customers to have coverage.

Other than this difference, Honda extended warranties are the same for new and CPO cars.

Do We Recommend a Honda Vehicle Service Contract?

What’s our ultimate decision from our Honda extended warranty review? We do recommend the Honda vehicle service contract.
